State & Local Tax Manager

Our client is looking for an experienced State & Local Tax Manager to join a growing tax organization and take ownership of a broad, multi-jurisdictional SALT function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 5+ years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting, who is ready to apply their technical expertise in a complex corporate environment.You’ll work closely with senior tax leadership, accounting and finance professionals, business stakeholders and external advisors while becoming a key resource on state and local tax matters across the organization.

You’ll have the opportunity to:Take ownership of state and local tax compliance across numerous jurisdictionsWork directly with senior tax leadership and external advisorsResearch and resolve complex SALT issuesBe involved in tax audits, legislative changes and tax planning initiativesProvide guidance and mentorship to junior tax professionalsIdentify opportunities to improve tax processes and complianceServe as a trusted subject matter expert to accounting, finance and business teamsGain broad exposure to multiple areas of state and local taxationWhat You’ll DoAs the State & Local Tax Manager, you will:Manage the preparation and review of state and local income tax returns, reports, extensions, estimates and supporting workpapers.Oversee the state and local tax compliance calendar and ensure timely, accurate filings and payments.Manage and review sales & use tax, gross receipts tax, business personal property tax and other indirect tax matters.Research state and local tax laws and regulations and document technical conclusions.Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and evaluate their potential impact on the organization.Manage state and local tax audits, notices, assessments and correspondence.Work with external tax advisors and tax authorities to resolve complex issues.Prepare and review taxable income calculations and state estimated tax payments, as applicable.Identify SALT compliance risks and opportunities and recommend process improvements.Partner with accounting, finance and other business teams to ensure accurate tax reporting.Translate complex tax issues into clear, practical information for non-tax professionals.Provide technical guidance, training and mentorship to junior tax professionals.Participate in tax planning, special projects and other initiatives that impact the organization’s tax function.What We’re Looking For5+ years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting experienceBachelorâ €™s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related fieldStrong multi-state and local tax compliance experienceExperience with state and local income tax and/or indirect taxesExperience with sales & use tax, gross receipts tax and/or business personal property tax highly valuedExperience researching and resolving complex SALT mattersExperience managing tax audits, notices and correspondenceExperience working with external tax advisors and service providersStrong analytical, research and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical tax matters to non-tax professionalsStrong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple jurisdictions and deadlinesCPA and/or Master of Taxation preferredThe OpportunityIf you’re a SALT professional who wants to move beyond routine compliance and have a meaningful role in a sophisticated tax function, this could be an excellent next step.You’ll have the opportunity to leverage your technical expertise, work alongside experienced tax leadership, broaden your exposure across multiple areas of taxation and contribute to the continued development of the organization’s tax function.Interested?
